Tourism & Family

Support for holidays, visits to friends and relatives, and other eligible personal visits to the UK.

At a Glance

A genuine temporary visit

We assess the purpose of the trip, proposed duration, personal circumstances and plans to leave the UK.

Family visits and invitations

We can review the role of a UK host, proposed accommodation and financial support alongside the visitor’s own circumstances. An invitation does not guarantee permission.

Visa, ETA or other travel permission

The appropriate pre-travel permission depends on nationality, immigration status and circumstances. We assess whether a visitor visa, an Electronic Travel Authorisation or another arrangement is relevant. An ETA is not a visa or a guarantee of entry.

Process and Procedure

We help present a coherent application based on the intended visit and your circumstances, including any earlier immigration issues.

  1. Assess the visit

Review the purpose, proposed activity, travel history and personal circumstances to identify the appropriate application.

  2. Prepare the application

Advise on relevant supporting information and review any host, institution, event or medical-provider arrangements.

  3. Submit and prove your identity

Assist with the visa application and required identity process, with advice on timing and travel plans.

  4. Decision and travel planning

Review the outcome and conditions, planned entry and the arrangements for the end of the visit.

Plan before travelling

We advise on the appropriate application service and costs. A visa application should be assessed separately from travel bookings; no outcome or decision date is guaranteed.

Permitted Activities

A visit for your personal plans

We help assess the visit as a whole, including earlier travel, any refusal history and the proposed itinerary.

  • We review the precise activity and any invitation or planned UK involvement.
  • We advise if the proposal needs a different immigration route.
  • We assess changes to the visit before a new activity begins.

The Standard Visitor route does not allow unrestricted employment or using repeated visits to live in the UK. The purpose of each visit must remain within the permitted activities.

Family Arrangements

Travelling together

Separate applications

Partners, children and other accompanying relatives need their own appropriate travel permission. A visitor visa does not provide a dependant route.

Children and support arrangements

We review consent, travel and care arrangements for applicants under eighteen, including whether they travel alone or with an adult.

Coordinate the family’s plans

We can assess the proposed visit for each person and review the role of UK hosts or accompanying relatives. The main purpose, expected duration and personal circumstances remain relevant to each application.

Stay and Extensions

Duration and repeated travel

Most Standard Visitor stays are limited to six months. A longer-validity visitor visa permits repeated eligible visits; it does not allow continuous residence or remove the limit applying to each stay.

Extensions are limited

A visitor granted less than six months may be able to extend to a total of six months. Staying beyond six months is limited to specified medical, academic and relevant examination or clinical-attachment circumstances. There is no general right to extend an ordinary visit beyond that limit.

We assess the current permission, purpose and proposed additional time before advising on any further application.

Future Plans

If your plans change

We can assess a later visit, review a previous refusal or advise on a separate work, study or family route. A change in plans does not automatically change your immigration conditions.

Many routes do not permit switching from visitor status inside the UK. We review eligibility and application location before you make commitments.

Settlement and citizenship are separate

Standard Visitor permission is temporary and does not lead directly to settlement. It cannot be used to make the UK your main home through frequent or successive visits.

British citizenship has separate eligibility conditions. A visitor visa or ETA does not confer settlement or citizenship.

Business & Engagements

Advice on permitted business visits, professional engagements and events within the Standard Visitor rules.

An eligible business activity

We assess the proposed meetings, event, training or other business activity to determine whether it fits the visitor rules.

The correct immigration route

Visitor permission is not a general work authorisation. We review the duties, payment arrangements and UK involvement before advising.

Permitted Activities

Choosing between study routes

We assess whether the visitor rules fit the course and proposed activity. English-language study lasting over six and up to eleven months may instead fall under Short-term Study. Longer sponsored study may require Student permission.

  • We review the precise activity and any invitation or planned UK involvement.
  • We advise if the proposal needs a different immigration route.
  • We assess changes to the visit before a new activity begins.

Immigration support for eligible private treatment, certain reciprocal healthcare arrangements and organ donation visits.

At a Glance

We assess the proposed consultation, treatment or donation visit alongside the arrangements with the relevant medical provider.

The expected treatment period, funding and intended departure need to fit the proposed visit. We review the immigration application in that context.
