A sponsored UK route for people taking a key leading role within a faith community or religious order.
The route can cover an eligible minister, missionary or member of a religious order taking the relevant leading role. We assess the actual duties and the appropriate immigration category.
The role must be supported by an organisation licensed for the relevant route and a valid Certificate of Sponsorship. We can advise on the application alongside the organisation’s sponsorship arrangements.
Initial permission can be granted for up to three years and one month, subject to the sponsored period. Extensions and a potential settlement application are assessed separately.
We review the proposed duties, duration and your immigration history before advising on the appropriate application.
We assist with overseas applications and eligible switches from within the UK, coordinating the sponsored engagement and immigration application.
Review the religious duties, sponsoring organisation, proposed engagement and your immigration history, including any family applications.
We help align the relevant sponsorship arrangements with the application and prepare the appropriate supporting information.
We assist with submission and the required identity-check process or biometric appointment.
Review the decision and visa conditions, coordinate eligible family applications and plan the end of the engagement or a further application.
The application should be coordinated with sponsorship, the proposed start date and any existing permission. Visa, healthcare, professional and document costs should be considered together.
A move to a different sponsored employer or a significant change of role may require a new application. We can review the proposed duties, sponsorship and timing before you begin.
Get advice promptly if the engagement ends or the sponsor’s licence changes, so that your continuing permission and options can be reviewed.
A qualifying spouse, civil partner or unmarried partner may apply to join you or remain with you in the UK, subject to the relevant relationship conditions.
Eligible dependent children can apply, including certain older children who already hold dependant permission. Each child’s circumstances need individual review.
An extension may be available where the sponsorship and other route conditions continue to be met. We review the continued role, sponsorship and timing before existing permission expires.
Family renewals are separate applications and should be planned alongside the main worker’s application.
Earlier Minister of Religion permission should be reviewed when preparing an extension or settlement application. We assess the relevant grants and any transitional arrangements as part of your immigration history.
A potential settlement application can arise after five qualifying years, subject to the relevant residence, continued sponsorship and other applicable conditions.
The periods that count towards settlement and any absences need individual review. Partners and children have separate eligibility conditions and qualifying periods.
We review the qualifying grants, continued religious role, sponsor confirmation and the other settlement conditions before advising on an application. Temporary Religious Worker time does not automatically count towards this route’s qualifying period.
Naturalisation has its own status, residence, absence, language, good-character and other conditions. Neither religious sponsorship nor visa permission guarantees settlement or citizenship.
A sponsored temporary route for eligible non-pastoral religious work or work within a religious order.
The temporary route is for eligible non-pastoral duties or work in a religious order. It is not a substitute for the Minister of Religion route where the role belongs in that category.
The role must be supported by an organisation licensed for the relevant route and a valid Certificate of Sponsorship. We can advise on the application alongside the organisation’s sponsorship arrangements.
Temporary permission is limited to a maximum of twenty-four months, with shorter grants depending on the sponsored engagement. This route does not lead directly to settlement.
We review the proposed duties, duration and your immigration history before advising on the appropriate application.
New applications are normally made from overseas. An extension of existing Religious Worker permission is different from switching into this route from another UK visa.
Review the religious duties, sponsoring organisation, proposed engagement and your immigration history, including any family applications.

We assist with submission and the required identity-check process or biometric appointment.

A change of job within the same organisation, or a move to another organisation, requires a new application. We can review the proposed change and sponsorship before you begin.
An extension may be possible while you remain eligible, but it cannot take the stay beyond the route’s maximum twenty-four-month limit. The sponsored period may impose a shorter end date.
We review the remaining permission available, continued sponsorship and any family renewals before an application.
This route replaced the former T5 Religious Worker category. Earlier temporary work history and any restrictions on returning should be reviewed before planning another engagement.
Temporary Religious Worker permission does not lead directly to settlement. If your plans change, another suitable route should be assessed before your current permission ends.
A move to Minister of Religion is a separate application with its own role, sponsorship and eligibility conditions. It is not an automatic progression from temporary religious work.
Naturalisation has its own status, residence, absence, language, good-character and other conditions. Neither religious sponsorship nor visa permission guarantees settlement or citizenship.
