The Spouse and Partner Visa (also known as a Family Visa) allows you to join your partner in the UK if they are a British citizen or hold settled status (ILR or pre-settled/settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme). This route covers spouses, civil partners, unmarried partners (who have lived together for 2+ years), and fiancé(e)s.
Genuine Relationship — You must demonstrate that your relationship is genuine and subsisting, with evidence such as photographs, communications, shared financial commitments, and statements from friends and family.
Minimum Income — The UK-based sponsor must demonstrate a minimum annual income of £29,000. This threshold is being phased upward — check current requirements at the time of application. Income can be from employment, self-employment, cash savings, or a combination.
English Language — A1 level for initial applications, A2 for extensions, B1 for settlement.
Accommodation — Adequate accommodation that is not overcrowded.
If you plan to marry your partner in the UK, you can apply for a Fiancé(e) Visa, which allows entry for 6 months. You must marry within that period and then apply to switch to the Spouse Visa.
Initially granted for 33 months (or 30 months if applying from inside the UK). Extended once for a further 30 months. After 5 years on the family route, you can apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain.
Family visa applications are among the most scrutinised by UKVI. We prepare comprehensive relationship evidence bundles, financial documentation, and English language evidence to maximise your chances of approval. We also handle complex cases involving Appendix FM exceptions, Article 8 ECHR arguments, and refusal challenges.
